Case IH 5392 – UCM (Universal Control Module): EHF Pump Solenoid(s) STG
Issue description
The system has detected a short to ground in the electrical circuit that controls the Enhanced High-Flow (EHF) auxiliary hydraulic pump solenoid(s). When this fault is active, a white telltale warning lamp will typically illuminate, and the high-flow auxiliary hydraulics may be disabled to protect the circuit.

Check the cause
Verify interlock conditions: Ensure the operator is seated, restraint bar is engaged, engine is running, hydraulic enable switch is activated, and the multifunction high-pressure interlock plug is connected.
Check fault status: Access the 'Faults and Warnings' menu on the monitor (e.g., Pro 1200) to see if the code is currently 'Active' or 'Inactive'.
Visual wiring inspection: Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the EHF pump solenoid for chafed insulation, pinched wires against the chassis, or melted casing.
Connector check: Disconnect the EHF pump solenoid plug and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent contacts.
Multimeter testing (Harness): Test the harness side of the connector for continuity to ground to isolate a harness short.
Multimeter testing (Solenoid): Measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil itself. If resistance is out of specification or shows continuity to the solenoid casing, the coil is internally shorted.
Repair steps
Prepare the Machine
Park the loader on a firm, level surface. Lower the loader arms and bucket/attachment completely to the ground. Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake.
Relieve Hydraulic Pressure
Push the lower 1/2-inch quick disconnect couplings toward the Connect-Under-Pressure (CUP) valve to relieve any stored pressure in the auxiliary circuit.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the EHF hydrostatic gear pump assembly (often a Bosch Rexroth 46cc or 63cc pump on large frame models) and identify the EHF proportional solenoid valve.
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If your diagnostic tests found a short in the harness, repair the damaged wire using proper splice sleeves and heat shrink, or replace the affected harness section.
Replace the Solenoid Coil/Valve
If the solenoid coil is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut at the end of the cartridge and slide the old coil off. Slide the new coil onto the cartridge and tighten the nut. If the valve cartridge itself is damaged, unthread it from the manifold and install a new cartridge valve.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect the solenoid electrical connector and the negative battery cable. Start the machine, engage the hydraulic enable switch, and test the EHF auxiliary circuit for proper operation.
Clear Codes
Navigate to the fault codes screen on your monitor, select the now-inactive 5392 code, and hit 'Clear' to remove it from the system's history.
