Case IH 54050 – Instrumentation Controller (INST / ICU2): Wheel Slip Sensing Error In The Instrumentation Controller

The tractor's system cannot accurately calculate the wheel slip percentage. This occurs if the radar speed signal is missing, invalid, or the calculation fails internally.

   Inspect the radar gun (ground speed sensor) mounted under the tractor for mud, crop debris, or ice blocking the sensor face

   Check the 4-pin connector connecting the radar to the vehicle's electrical system for bent, damaged, or dislocated pins, corrosion, or moisture

   Verify continuity on the wiring harness between the radar sensor, the wheel speed sensor, and the Instrumentation Controller

   Verify if the percent slip calculation has failed internally within the instrumentation controller

   Clear and Retest

   Clear all fault codes using the instrument cluster's diagnostic mode (using the PROG, RESET, and DIAG buttons). Start the tractor, drive it, and check if code 54050 returns.

   Clean the Sensor

   If the code returns, locate the radar sensor and thoroughly clean the emitting face. Retest the tractor.

   Perform Electrical Testing

   Disconnect the 4-pin connector at the radar sensor. Use a multimeter to ensure the sensor is receiving proper voltage and ground from the tractor harness.

   Replace the Radar Sensor

   If the wiring harness tests good (no open circuits or shorts to ground) but the radar is not outputting a valid ground speed signal to the Data Bus, the radar sensor has failed and must be replaced.

   Address the Instrumentation Controller

   If a known-good radar sensor and wheel speed sensor do not resolve the code, the Instrumentation Controller (ICU2) has suffered a software execution or hardware failure regarding slip calculation. The cluster will need to be reprogrammed or replaced.
