54090

Case IH 54090 – PTO Controller: Trailed Implement Raised Signal is failed in the Performance Controller.

Issue description

This code indicates that the signal verifying the raised position of a trailed implement has failed, been lost, or is out of range according to the Performance Controller's logic.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • MX210
  • MX230
  • MX255
  • MX285
  • Steiger Series
  • TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect all connector ends on the Performance Controller and PTO Controller for damaged, bent, pushed-back, or dislocated pins.

  2. Remove the controller cover from the rear of the tractor and check that the wire harness routing of the controllers is installed securely against the cab. Ensure the wiring is not loose, stretched, or draped in front of the controllers, which can cause chafing or connection stress.

  3. Turn the ignition key to the ON position and observe the LED status lamp on the PTO controller. A flashing LED indicates a harness or sensor issue, while a steady ON LED indicates an internal controller failure.

Repair steps

  1. Address Wiring Issues (If LED is flashing)

Use a multimeter to check the continuity of the signal wire between the Trailed Implement sensor/connector and the Performance Controller. Repair any shorts to ground or open circuits in the harness.

  2. Replace Controller (If LED is steady)

Disconnect the battery, unplug the harness connectors, and remove the mounting hardware to replace the controller.

  3. Reassembly and Calibration

Install the new controller (if applicable), ensure the harness is routed tightly against the cab, and reconnect the battery.

  4. Clear Codes

Clear the fault codes from the system and cycle the trailed implement to verify the Performance Controller successfully registers the "Raised" signal.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • PTO Controller / Performance Controller

Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily by exact chassis serial number and cab configuration; refer to the CNH parts catalog with the machine's PIN. Ensure it is flashed/configured to the correct tractor model.
