Case IH 54170 – PTO Controller: Communication Lost With The Performance Controller

The PTO (Power Take-Off) controller is not receiving or recognizing information from the Performance Controller over the tractor's CAN data bus network.

   Check for accompanying codes (e.g., TRANS 12011, PTO 54120, INST 12011, AUX 12011, PERF 12031) to determine if the issue is a bad connection or damaged wire along the main Data Bus.

   Inspect connector ends for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins.

   Check the PTO Controller function: Ensure connector C056 is securely plugged in and observe the diagnostic LED (Flashing = normal, Solid ON = failed internally, OFF = no power, check power supply and fuse).

   Check the Performance Controller function: Ensure connector C062 is plugged in. If there is no display and no backlight, check the power supply, fuse, and ground.

   Test the CAN Data Bus voltages: Pin 2 (Yellow Wire) should read 2.5 to 4 volts, Pin 4 (Green Wire) should read 1 to 2.5 volts, and Pin 3 should have continuity to a clean chassis ground.

   Restore Power/Ground

   If the PTO controller LED was OFF or the Performance monitor was blank, locate and replace the blown fuse or repair the broken power/ground wire supplying the affected controller.

   Repair Data Bus Wiring

   If the voltage checks on the yellow and green CAN wires are out of specification, trace the data bus wiring to locate the short, open circuit, or bad connection. Repair the damaged wire or replace the affected harness section.

   Replace the PTO Controller

   If the PTO controller is receiving proper power and ground but the diagnostic LED remains solid ON, the controller has suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.

   Clear Codes and Test

   After repairs are made, cycle the key, clear the inactive fault codes, and verify that communication between the PTO and Performance controllers has been restored.
