Case IH 55014 – STEERING Controller: Voltage is detected on the FRONT_STEER_RIGHT driver pin when not expected
Issue description
Voltage is detected on pin C056-11 (the output circuit for the right steering proportional valve/solenoid) even when the controller is not actively commanding that valve to open. This condition is typically caused by a short to power in the wiring harness, a shorted solenoid coil, or an internal hardware failure within the controller itself (a stuck driver).

Check the cause
Perform a harness isolation test by disconnecting connector C056 at the Steering Controller and disconnecting the harness at the front right steering valve solenoid.
Check for a short to power: Turn the key to the ON position (engine off) and use a multimeter to measure for voltage at pin 11 on the harness side of connector C056. If 12V is present, the wiring harness is shorted to a power source.
Measure the resistance of the front right steering solenoid coil to ensure it is not internally shorted.
If the wiring harness and solenoid test perfectly normal, suspect an internal failure of the Steering Controller (stuck driver).
Repair steps
Prepare the tractor for repair
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Disconnect the controller connector
Locate the Steering Controller and disconnect the C056 connector.
Disconnect the steering solenoid
Locate the steering control valve block (usually near the articulation joint) and disconnect the front right steering solenoid.
Inspect the wiring harness
Visually inspect the wiring harness running between the controller and the steering valve. Look closely for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points—especially where the harness routes through the articulation joint, as this area is highly susceptible to wear.
Repair or replace the wiring harness
If a short is found in the wiring, repair the damaged section using weather-sealed splice connectors, or replace that section of the harness.
Replace the solenoid coil or valve assembly
If the solenoid coil is internally shorted, replace the coil or the steering control valve assembly.
Reconnect components and power on
Reconnect all components, reconnect the battery, and power on the tractor to clear the fault codes.
Test the steering system and replace controller if necessary
Test the steering system. If code 55014 immediately returns and the harness/solenoid are verified good, replace the Steering Controller. Note: A new Steering Controller will require a full steering system calibration using the OEM diagnostic tool (EST).
