Case IH 55019 – STEERING: Voltage is detected on the RELAY driver pin when not expected.

Unexpected voltage is detected on Pin C056-7, meaning the controller is sensing voltage on the relay driver circuit at a time when it is not actively commanding the steering relay to be energized. This typically points to a short-to-power in the wiring harness, a faulty/stuck relay, or an internal failure within the controller itself.

   Inspect the steering relay and its socket for signs of corrosion, melting, or water intrusion.

   Disconnect connector C056 from the Steering Controller, turn the key ON, and check for voltage on Pin 7 (C056-7) on the harness side to identify a short-to-power.

   Remove the steering relay and bench test it for a stuck-closed condition or internal shorting.

   If the relay and harness are functioning correctly, check the steering controller for an internal hardware failure on the driver pin.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Locate the steering controller and the associated steering relay block (refer to the specific STX model's electrical schematic for exact cab/chassis locations).

   Repair the Harness

   If your diagnostic checks revealed voltage on pin C056-7, trace the wire from the controller to the relay. Look for pinch points, chafed insulation, or melted wires crossing with a 12V power source. Splice and repair the damaged wire using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors.

   Replace the Relay

   If the relay failed the bench test, replace it with a new OEM equivalent.

   If the harness and relay are perfectly intact, the steering controller itself must be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
