Case IH 55047 – Steering Control System / Steering ECU: No current is sensed flowing through the MAKEUP_RIGHT driver when expected.

This is an electrical circuit fault indicating an open circuit or high resistance in the right steering makeup valve circuit. The control module is trying to send an electrical current to actuate the right-side makeup valve solenoid (the 'driver'), but it detects zero or insufficient current flow, meaning the circuit is broken, unplugged, or the solenoid coil has failed.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the right makeup valve solenoid for chafing, rodent damage, or pinched wires.

   Disconnect the electrical plug at the right makeup valve solenoid and check for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Measure the resistance across the two pins of the right makeup valve solenoid coil using a multimeter (an 'OL' reading indicates a broken internal coil).

   Disconnect the harness at the Steering ECU and valve solenoid to check for continuity on power and ground wires, and check for a short to ground.

   Back-probe the connector or use a test light to verify if the Steering ECU is sending a voltage signal to the solenoid when right steering is commanded.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Relieve hydraulic pressure by turning the steering wheel left and right several times.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Steering Valve

   Locate the steering control valve block. Clean the area around the valve thoroughly with brake cleaner to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire, splice and solder the wire, sealing it with dual-wall heat shrink. If the connector is damaged, splice in a new pigtail connector.

   Replace the Solenoid/Valve (If Applicable)

   If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut on the end of the solenoid stem and slide the old coil off. Slide the new OEM coil on and torque the retaining nut to spec. If the internal valve spool is seized or the entire steering valve block has failed, disconnect the hydraulic lines (cap them immediately), unbolt the valve block, and install the replacement steering valve assembly.

   Reassembly and Testing

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Start the tractor and check for hydraulic leaks.

   Clear Codes

   Use the AFS Pro display or an electronic service tool to clear the 55047 fault code. Turn the steering wheel lock-to-lock to verify smooth operation and ensure the code does not return.
