55052

Case IH 55052 – STEERING: Too much current is sensed flowing through the ARTIC_BYPASS driver pin

Issue description

Fault code 55052 indicates an overcurrent condition on a specific circuit. The electrical driver circuit controlling the articulation bypass valve is drawing more amperage than the system allows, typically pointing to a short circuit or a failed solenoid coil.

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • STX 275
  • STX 280
  • STX 325
  • STX 375
  • STX 440
  • STX 450
  • STX 530

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading from the Steering Controller to the Articulation Bypass (ARTIC_BYPASS) solenoid on the steering priority valve block for rubbed-through insulation causing a short to ground.

  2. Disconnect the plug at the bypass solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or melted pins that could cause a short.

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the ARTIC_BYPASS solenoid coil. Extremely low resistance or a dead short indicates the coil has failed internally.

  4. With the solenoid and the steering controller disconnected, test the signal wire for continuity to ground. Continuity indicates the wiring harness is shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent damage to the steering controller during testing and repair.

  2. Locate the Valve

Locate the Steering Priority Valve block (standard on STX hydraulic systems) where the articulation bypass solenoid is housed.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of the wire and seal it with heat-shrink tubing, or replace the affected harness section.

  4. Replace Solenoid (If Applicable)

If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the valve stem, slide the old coil off, and install the new replacement coil.

  5. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the electrical harness to the solenoid. Reconnect the battery. Power on the tractor and use the diagnostic display (Trans View/Setup menus or a service tool) to clear the inactive fault codes.

  6. Test Operation

Articulate the tractor steering lock-to-lock in a safe area to ensure the fault code does not return.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Articulation Bypass Solenoid / Coil

Fitment: Case IH STX / Steiger Steering Priority Valve

  • Steering Priority Valve Assembly

    Fitment: Case IH STX 275-530

  • Steering Controller / ECU

Only replace if the driver pin is internally burnt out and the harness/solenoid test fine
