Case IH 559 – ENGINE (ENG) Controller / Engine Control Module (ECM): Front fueling actuator underfueling

The front fueling actuator is delivering less fuel than commanded by the system. This condition is typically triggered by a discrepancy in fuel rail pressure (where the pressure is lower than commanded) or an electrical fault in the actuator's circuit.

   Inspect the front fueling actuator circuit for an open circuit, short to ground, high actuator resistance, or a supply wire shorted to the battery.

   Inspect the fuel supply lines starting from the tank outlet and ensure the fuel tank breather is not plugged.

   Inspect for a heavily restricted primary or secondary fuel filter.

   Verify that no air is entering the fuel system.

   Inspect the injector harness for faults.

   Verify the Code

   Connect your diagnostic tool to confirm ENG 559 is active.

   Filter Maintenance

   Replace the primary and secondary fuel filters and prime the fuel system to rule out basic fuel restrictions.

   Harness Inspection

   Locate the front fueling actuator (closest to the front of the engine on the fuel delivery housing). Disconnect the harness and use a multimeter to check the Front Fueling Actuator (+) and (-) pins for continuity, proper resistance, and absence of shorts to ground. Repair or replace the harness if damaged.

   Address Fuel Leaks/Seals

   If the electrical circuit is sound, check the high-pressure fuel system for leaks. Re-torqueing the injector nuts to OEM specifications may correct the pressure loss (especially on early HPCR engines where injector tubes can lose their seal).

   Replace the Actuator

   If the wiring is intact, filters are clean, and there are no leaks, the front fueling actuator itself has likely failed internally and must be replaced.

   Clear and Test

   Clear the fault code from the ECM. Idle the engine for at least one minute to ensure the fault status changes to inactive and does not return.
