Case IH 5601 – UCM (Universal Control Module) or main machine/implement controller: Loader Auxiliary Valve (Directional) Loader Auxiliary Solenoid(s) Shorted To Power

The control module has detected unexpected voltage on the auxiliary directional valve solenoid circuit. The underlying condition is a short circuit to a power source (typically 12V) either within the wiring harness or internally within the solenoid coil itself.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the loader auxiliary directional valve block for chafed, pinched, or melted wire insulation bridging to a 12V power wire.

   Disconnect the harness at the auxiliary valve solenoids and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

   With the key ON (but auxiliary function not commanded), use a multimeter to probe the solenoid signal and return wires. If 12V is present, the harness is shorted to power.

   Measure the resistance across the pins of the auxiliary solenoid coil. A reading near zero ohms indicates the solenoid coil is internally shorted.

   Turn off the machine, lower all loader arms/attachments to the ground, relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the auxiliary directional control valve block.

   Usually located under the cab or in the loader arm linkage area, depending on the machine.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the affected auxiliary solenoid.

   If the harness is faulty: Repair the shorted section of the wiring harness using proper weather-sealed splices, or replace the affected harness section.

   If the solenoid is faulty: Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid cartridge.

   Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve stem.

   If the cartridge itself is damaged or leaking, the entire solenoid valve assembly may need to be unthreaded and replaced.

   Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

   Reconnect the electrical harness to the solenoid.

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and clear the fault codes via the monitor or diagnostic tool.

    Start the machine and test the auxiliary hydraulic functions to verify the repair.
