56014

Case IH 56014 – Transmission Controller (TRANS / TRCU): The Transmission Control Lever is NOT in Park, Neutral, Forward, or Reverse.

Issue description

This fault code is triggered when the transmission controller detects that the transmission control lever has been out of a valid position (Park, Neutral, Forward, or Reverse) for more than 2 seconds.

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • Puma series
  • Steiger series
  • STX series
  • STX-275
  • Magnum series
  • Magnum 245
  • MX series
  • A8000

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the operator held the lever out of any valid position (between gears) for more than two seconds, which indicates an operational error rather than a mechanical failure

  2. Test the Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park (FNRP) switch module to see if it is hanging up mechanically or failing to send the correct position signal to the controller

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the FNRP switch module and the transmission controller for failed wiring, corrosion, or loose pins

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Clear the fault code from the transmission controller. Operate the tractor normally, ensuring the lever is shifted crisply into gear without holding it between positions. If the code does not return, no repair is needed.

  2. Inspect Wiring

If the code persists, access the wiring harness connecting the transmission control lever to the transmission controller. Perform a continuity test on the harness to rule out an open or shorted circuit. Repair or replace the harness if damaged.

  3. Replace the Switch/Handle

If the wiring is intact, the FNRP switch module has failed internally. Depending on the specific tractor model, you will either need to replace the standalone FNRP switch or the entire transmission shift handle grip assembly (as the switch is integrated into the grip on some models).

  4. Recalibrate (if necessary)

After replacing the switch or handle, navigate to the "TRANS SETUP" menu on the display to verify the status of the component and perform any necessary transmission calibrations.
