Case IH 56024 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): 1M Valve Coil Circuit is Shorted to 12 Volts When Valve is On
Issue description
This code indicates that the 1M clutch solenoid coil has been commanded ON, but the voltage on the low side of the coil is higher than expected. The underlying condition is typically caused by one of three failure modes: 1. The 1M clutch solenoid coil is internally shorted. 2. The wiring harness between the 1M clutch solenoid and the transmission controller is shorted to a 12-volt power source. 3. The transmission controller itself has failed.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- STX Steiger
- STX Steiger Series
- STX325
- STX500
- Steiger 535
- Steiger / Quadtrac Series
- Quadtrac 620
- Puma Series
- CS 150
- Magnum Series
Check the cause
Replicate the fault by shifting the transmission into forward gears 2, 7, 8, or 14 to see if the code records
Visually inspect the wiring harness between the transmission controller (often under the cab fuse/relay panel) and the 1M clutch solenoid for rubbed wires or melted insulation causing a short to 12V power
Test the 1M clutch solenoid coil for an internal short circuit
If the solenoid coil and wiring harness test fine, verify the transmission controller for internal failure
Repair steps
Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the transmission electrical circuits.
If the diagnostic checks reveal a short in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of the wire between the 1M clutch solenoid and the transmission controller, or replace the harness.
If the 1M clutch solenoid is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut and cartridge, and replace the solenoid.
Note: Do not over-torque the parts during installation; standard torque specs for similar Case IH solenoids are roughly 18 ft-lbs on the cartridge and 5-6 ft-lbs on the retaining nut.
If no problems are found with the wiring or the solenoid, replace the transmission controller.
Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor.
Clear Codes and Recalibrate: Fault codes must be retrieved, recorded, and cleared before transmission calibration is possible.
Enter the "TRANS SETUP" menu on the display, clear the codes, and perform a transmission calibration (which involves moving the transmission control lever to the forward position and using the inching pedal) to ensure the new components are recognized and operate smoothly.
