56034

Case IH 56034 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): 1M Valve Coil circuit is open or shorted to ground when valve is ON.

Issue description

This code indicates that the 1M clutch solenoid coil has been commanded ON, but the transmission controller detects that the voltage on the low side of the coil is lower than expected. The controller measures the current draw from the 1M clutch solenoid circuit; if the current draw is below the limit, it flags the circuit as open or shorted to ground.

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series (including STX Series Tractors with P.I.N. JEE0106701 and later)
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the 1M clutch solenoid coil to see if it has failed open. If the problem is temperature-sensitive, the solenoid coil may be starting to fail.

  2. Check the wiring harness between the 1M clutch solenoid and the transmission controller for a short to ground or an open circuit.

  3. Verify if power is available from the neutral latch relay. Look for an open circuit in the solenoid power wire.

  4. Test the transmission controller (located underneath the fuse/relay panel in the cab) if the solenoid and wiring are intact.

Repair steps

  1. Retrieve and clear codes

Retrieve, record, and clear any existing fault codes before beginning physical repairs or calibration.

  2. Inspect and repair wiring

Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the transmission controller and the 1M clutch solenoid. Repair or replace any damaged wires or connectors.

  3. Test and replace solenoid

Test the 1M clutch solenoid coil resistance. If it tests out of specification (failed open or shorted), replace the 1M clutch solenoid.

  4. Test and replace relay

If there is no power reaching the solenoid, test the neutral latch relay and replace it if defective.

  5. Replace transmission controller

If the wiring, relay, and solenoid are all functioning correctly, replace the transmission controller.

  6. Perform recalibration

After replacing any transmission components or the controller, you must perform a Transmission Controller Calibration. Ensure the transmission fluid is at operating temperature, access the 'Trans Setup' menu on the display, and follow the on-screen prompts (including inching pedal validation) to complete the calibration.
