Case IH 56037 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): 2R Valve Coil circuit is open or shorted to ground when valve is ON.
Issue description
The transmission controller measures the voltage and current draw on the 2R clutch solenoid circuit. If the voltage or current draw is lower than expected when the valve is commanded ON, it indicates that the circuit is either open, shorted to ground, or has lost its power supply. This fault is typically recorded when the transmission is shifted into gears that engage the 2R clutch (such as forward gears 3, 9, 10, or 15).
Applies to these machines

- Puma Series
- MX Magnum Series
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness from the transmission controller to the 2R clutch solenoid
Determine if the problem only occurs when the tractor reaches operating temperature (indicates internal solenoid coil failure)
Check for an open circuit or a short to ground in the wire between the 2R clutch solenoid and the transmission controller
Check for power available from the neutral latch relay to ensure there isn't an open circuit in the solenoid's power wire
Verify the transmission controller if the wiring and solenoid test within specification
Repair steps
Inspect Connectors
Locate the 2R clutch solenoid on the transmission valve block. Disconnect and inspect the electrical connector (specifically identified as female connector X-505) for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture.
Test the Solenoid
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the 2R clutch solenoid coil pins. If the coil tests open (infinite resistance) or is shorted to ground, the solenoid must be replaced.
Repair Wiring
If the solenoid tests good, trace the wiring harness back to the transmission controller. Repair any broken wires or shorts to ground.
Replace Controller
If the solenoid and wiring harness are fully intact and functioning, replace the Transmission Controller.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
After replacing the solenoid or repairing the wiring, use the tractor's display to enter the 'Trans Setup Menu.' Clear the stored fault codes, and perform a full transmission calibration (which includes calibrating the inching pedal and the clutch fill times).
