Case IH 56047 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): 2R Valve Coil circuit is open or shorted to ground when the valve is OFF

The 2R clutch solenoid coil is commanded off, but the voltage on the low side of the coil is reading lower than expected. This is caused by the 2R solenoid coil failing open, a short to ground or open circuit in the wire between the solenoid and transmission controller, or no power available from the neutral latch relay.

   Note when the fault occurs to check for temperature sensitivity (indicates internal solenoid failure).

   Visually inspect the wiring harness from the transmission controller to the 2R solenoid for abnormal routing, chafing, or damage.

   Locate and disconnect connectors C026 and C027 to verify they are fully seated and inspect internal terminals/wires for corrosion or damage.

   Test the wiring between the transmission controller and the 2R solenoid for a short to ground or open circuit.

   Test the neutral latch relay to ensure power is being supplied to the solenoid power wire.

   Inspect and Clean Connectors

   Disconnect connectors C026 and C027. Clean the terminals and ensure they make solid contact. Reconnect them securely.

   Repair Wiring

   If the multimeter tests reveal a short to ground or an open circuit in the harness between the transmission controller and the 2R solenoid, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness.

   Restore Power

   If no power is reaching the solenoid, trace the solenoid power wire back to the neutral latch relay and repair the open circuit.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring and relays are intact but the 2R solenoid coil tests as failed/open, remove and replace the 2R clutch solenoid.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Once the physical repair is complete, retrieve and clear the fault codes from the Transmission Controller, then perform a full transmission calibration procedure.
