56097

Case IH 56097 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Calibration system pressure point is not reached.

Issue description

During the transmission pressure calibration procedure, the controller attempts to record pressure calibration points at 1000 kPa (145 PSI) and 1500 kPa (218 PSI). If the resulting pressure fails to reach these required thresholds (or falls outside the expected 1069 to 1138 kPa / 155 to 165 PSI range when commanded), the controller aborts the process and logs this fault.

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Transmission Oil Level: Check for improper or low transmission fluid levels.

  2. System Pressure Valve: Inspect the valve to see if it is sticking.

  3. System Pressure Valve Spring: Check the spring for weakness, binding, or breakage.

  4. Transmission System Pressure Sensor: Test the sensor to ensure it is reading and reporting pressures accurately to the controller.

  5. Transmission Pump: Test the pump output to rule out a weak or failed transmission pump.

  6. Internal Leaks: Inspect for internal transmission hydraulic leaks that could cause a pressure drop.

Repair steps

  1. Fluid Check

Begin by checking the transmission oil level. If it is low, fill it to the proper level and attempt calibration again.

  2. Sensor Verification

If the fluid level is correct, verify the transmission system pressure sensor's wiring harness, connector, and output. Replace the sensor if it is faulty.

  3. Valve Inspection

Remove and inspect the transmission system pressure valve and its spring. Clean any debris causing the valve to stick. Replace the spring or the entire valve assembly if damaged.

  4. Pump and Leak Testing

If the valve and sensor are functioning properly, perform a pressure test on the transmission pump. If the pump is weak, it must be replaced. If the pump is good, the transmission must be torn down and inspected for internal leaks.

  5. Clear Codes

Once the mechanical or electrical repair is completed, access the Trans Setup Menu on the instrumentation display to retrieve, record, and clear the fault codes.

  6. Recalibrate

Re-run the transmission controller calibration procedure. Ensure the inching pedal is in a valid range and the operator is seated properly during the calibration process.
