56115

Case IH 56115 – Transmission Controller (TCU): Trans Controller Failure — Internal short in the 2R Valve Coil circuit.

Issue description

The transmission controller has commanded the 2R valve coil driver to the "OFF" state, but the controller is still sensing current flowing through the driver. Primary Failure Mode: The transmission controller's internal 2R valve coil driver has failed (internally shorted).

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • Case IH STX Series Tractors
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH MX Magnum Series

Check the cause

  1. Test the 2R valve coil solenoid for an internal short circuit.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the 2R clutch solenoid and the transmission controller to ensure the wire is not shorted to a 12V power source.

  3. Access the 'Trans View' menu on the display, retrieve and record all active fault codes, and attempt to clear them to see if the 56115 code immediately returns upon key-on.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's batteries before servicing the transmission controller.

  2. Replace the Controller

Locate the transmission controller (usually mounted in the cab or under the side console depending on the model) and disconnect the transmission wire harnesses. Remove and replace the failed transmission controller.

  3. Re-establish Power & Clear Codes

Reconnect the batteries. Enter the diagnostic menu and clear any residual fault codes.

  4. Perform Transmission Calibration

Enter the Trans Setup Menu. Calibrate the inching pedal (ensure the display reads that the pedal is in a valid range). Run the transmission clutch fill calibration process. Increase engine speed to the specified RPM (usually around 2000 RPM) and follow the on-screen prompts until the display reads that the fill process is finished. Press the PROG key to exit the transmission calibration and return to normal operation.
