Case IH 564-03 - DEC – DEC: Voltage Above Normal, Or Shorted To High Source
Issue description
The control module has detected that the electrical circuit supplying the MFD clutch solenoid has a voltage reading higher than the normal operating range, which typically points to a short circuit to a positive voltage source (battery voltage) or an open circuit in the wiring harness.

Check the cause
Trace the wiring harness from the DEC module to the MFD clutch solenoid. Look for rubbed, chafed, or melted wires that could be shorting to a high voltage source.
Inspect the electrical connector at the MFD solenoid (e.g., connector X-160) for damaged pins, pushed-out terminals, or moisture intrusion.
Use a multimeter to test the solenoid circuit for a short to voltage. Disconnect the solenoid and check if the voltage on the signal wire remains high.
Measure the resistance of the MFD clutch solenoid coil to verify it is not internally shorted.
Repair steps
Prepare machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the park brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate solenoid valve
Locate the MFD clutch solenoid valve, which is typically mounted on the transmission solenoid valve tubes or the MFD transfer gearbox.
Disconnect electrical connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
Clean surrounding area
Clean the surrounding area to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Remove retaining bolts
Remove the retaining bolts (e.g., M6 x 35 or M6 x 50 bolts) securing the solenoid valve assembly.
Extract old solenoid valve
Extract the old solenoid valve and discard the old O-rings.
Lubricate and install O-rings
Lubricate the new O-rings (e.g., 8-1, 12-1, or 6-1 O-rings) with clean hydraulic fluid and install them on the new valve.
Insert new solenoid valve
Insert the new solenoid valve assembly into the housing and tighten the retaining bolts.
Reconnect electrical connector
Reconnect the electrical connector.
Test and verify
Start the tractor, test the MFD engagement, check for hydraulic leaks, and clear the fault code.
