Case IH 566-06 - DEC – DEC: Differential Lock State - Central Rear (Rear Differential Lock) Current above normal or grounded circuit
Issue description
The controller has detected an excessive current draw on the circuit responsible for the rear differential lock control solenoid. This is typically caused by a short circuit between the 2 cables, the harness being shorted to ground, or the solenoid itself failing internally and shorting out.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear differential lock solenoid for rubbing, melting, or exposed wires that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the solenoid and use a multimeter to check for a short circuit between the 2 cables (power and ground) on the harness side.
Measure the resistance across the pins of the rear differential lock solenoid. If the resistance is extremely low or reads as zero, the solenoid is internally shorted and is the source of the high current draw.
Inspect the electrical connections to the sensor/solenoid for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins that could bridge the circuit.
Repair steps
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery
Ensure safety and prevent further electrical damage.
Locate the rear differential lock control solenoid
Locate it on the rear axle/drivetrain assembly.
Disconnect the electrical connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid.
Repair or replace the wiring harness
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the harness pigtail.
Remove the faulty solenoid
If the diagnostic checks revealed an internally shorted solenoid, unbolt and remove the faulty rear differential lock solenoid valve. (Be prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid/oil).
Install the new solenoid
Install the new rear differential lock control solenoid and torque to the manufacturer's specifications.
Reconnect the electrical harness
Reconnect the electrical harness to the solenoid.
Reconnect the battery and power on
Reconnect the battery and power on the machine.
Clear the fault codes
Clear the fault codes from the DEC using a diagnostic scan tool.
Test the rear differential lock engagement
Ensure you are in a safe environment or field condition to test axle locks to verify the repair and ensure the code does not return.
