Case IH 582 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Fuel inlet Pressure Sensor voltage is too low
Issue description
The Fuel Supply Pump Inlet Pressure Sensor Circuit is shorted low. The Engine Control Module (ECM) triggers this code when the voltage signal from the sensor drops below the normal operating range (typically below 0.5V), indicating a circuit issue or a failed sensor.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the fuel inlet pressure sensor housing for physical damage or fuel leaks.
Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins.
Perform a voltage test at the sensor connector (key ON, engine OFF) to verify the 5-volt reference supply from the ECM and a good ground.
Perform a continuity test on the signal wire to check for a short to ground or the chassis.
Monitor live fuel pressure sensor voltage using a diagnostic tool; if stuck at 0V with the 5V reference present, the sensor has failed internally.
Repair steps
Safety First
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the fuel inlet pressure sensor to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.
Relieve Pressure
Relieve any residual fuel pressure in the system according to the service manual (often by opening a bleeder valve on the fuel filter housing).
Remove the Sensor
Unplug the electrical connector. Use a wrench to carefully unscrew the faulty fuel inlet pressure sensor from its mounting port.
Install the New Sensor
Thread the new sensor into the port by hand to prevent cross-threading. Tighten it to the OEM torque specification (do not overtighten, as the brass threads can break).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor until the locking tab clicks.
Prime the System
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position for 30 seconds to allow the electric lift pump to prime the fuel system. You may need to cycle the key a few times.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic scanner to clear the inactive ENG 582 fault code. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks and verify the code does not return.
