Case IH 583 – Engine Control Module (ECM / ENG): Fuel Inlet Pressure Sensor voltage out of range high or low

The engine fuel supply pump has detected that the fuel intake restriction is above the calibrated threshold, or the sensor data is valid but below the normal operating range. This typically points to excessive fuel flow restriction to the high-pressure fuel pump.

   Inspect metal fuel lines for sharp bends, kinks, or damage that could cause a pressure restriction

   Inspect rubber fuel hoses for internal damage, specifically looking for separation of the inner lining from the center of the hose

   Check fuel filters for high restriction or plugging, which is a primary cause of this code

   Check the lift pump for malfunction caused by high pressure from the fuel system or high restriction in the filters

   Inspect the fuel supply pump intake pressure sensor wiring harness, verifying the 5-volt supply and ground circuits for shorts or open circuits

   Relieve Fuel System Pressure

   Ensure the machine is off and relieve the fuel system pressure before opening any lines.

   Clear Restrictions

   Replace any damaged metal fuel lines or collapsed rubber fuel hoses identified during the diagnostic phase.

   Replace Fuel Filters

   If the filters are restricted, remove and replace them with new OEM filters.

   Replace the Sensor

   Locate the engine fuel supply pump intake pressure sensor (located on the inlet of the fuel supply pump). Unplug the wiring harness, unthread the old sensor, and install the new sensor.

   Replace the Lift Pump

   If the lift pump has failed due to operating against high restriction, replace the lift pump assembly.

   Clear the Fault Code

   Reconnect all components. To validate the repair, perform a key cycle, start the engine, and let it idle for 1 minute. The fault code status should change to INACTIVE. You can then clear the inactive codes using the recommended electronic service tool (e.g., INSITE).
