Case IH 59 – Armrest Controller: Aux 4th remote valve LEVER potentiometer is failed.

Issue description

The potentiometer inside the armrest lever for the 4th auxiliary hydraulic remote is sending an erratic, out-of-range, or missing voltage signal. The system cannot accurately determine the physical position of the lever (whether it is in neutral, extend, or retract).

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Magnum
  • MX series
  • TG series
  • Steiger
  • Quadtrac
  • Puma
  • Maxxum
  • Optum

Check the cause

  1. Check the 4th remote lever for physical damage, sticking, or lack of spring tension returning it to the neutral position.

  2. Lift the armrest console cover and inspect the wiring harness and connector going to the 4th remote lever. Look for loose pins, chafed wires, or corrosion.

  3. Attempt to recalibrate the hydraulic remote levers via the A-post display or the Pro700 monitor. If the green cylinder indicator light on the A-post stays illuminated when the lever is physically in neutral, or if calibration fails, the potentiometer is internally shorted or worn out.

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect battery power to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Armrest Internals

Remove the screws securing the upper housing/bezel of the armrest console to expose the remote valve lever modules.

  3. Remove the Faulty Component

Locate the 4th remote lever assembly. Disconnect its electrical connector. Remove the mounting screws/hardware holding the lever assembly in place and pull it out of the armrest.

  4. Install the New Part

Drop the new lever/potentiometer assembly into the armrest slot, secure it with the mounting hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.

  5. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest console cover and bezel.

  6. Perform EHR Calibration

Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. You must calibrate the new lever for it to work. Hold the PROG key while turning the key on, navigate to the 'ARM' section, and enter the calibration menu. Pull the 4th lever fully back, push it fully forward, and let it return to neutral. Turn off the key and wait 30 seconds to save the calibration before starting the tractor.
