Case IH 60 – Transmission Controller: Switch inputs indicate shuttle lever is not in neutral, not in forward, and not in reverse

The transmission controller is receiving an illogical or missing electrical signal from the Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park (FNRP) shuttle lever pod. Because the switch inputs do not match any valid directional state, the controller disables shifting to prevent unintended movement.

   Rapidly cycle the shuttle lever from forward to reverse and back to neutral several times to free up sticking internal magnetic switches inside the pod.

   Inspect the transmission controller terminators and cab grounds. Loose or corroded grounds can cause CAN-bus communication drops and illogical switch states.

   Inspect the BOC (Bottom of Clutch) Switch located under the steering column. Disconnect the connector and measure continuity (should have continuity when inching pedal is up, none when down).

   Disconnect the shuttle lever switch connector and verify that 12V power and a solid ground are present at the harness. If 12V is missing, check for a short to power or open circuit.

   Check for blown fuses or shorts in the park brake solenoid or driveline speed sensor wiring (especially on Steiger models), which can blow the transmission fuse and trigger Code 60.

   Prepare machine

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and ensure the parking brake is engaged.

   Remove steering wheel

   Remove the steering wheel to gain unobstructed access to the steering column (required on most models).

   Remove column covers

   Unscrew and remove the plastic steering column shrouds/covers.

   Disconnect wiring

   Locate the gear selector/shuttle lever assembly mounted to the side of the column. Disconnect the main wiring harness connector from the switch pod.

   Remove old lever

   Remove the mounting screws holding the old shuttle lever assembly to the column and slide it off.

   Install new lever

   Install the new shuttle lever switch assembly and secure it with the mounting screws.

   Reconnect wiring

   Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connector clicks firmly into place.

   Reassemble steering column

   Reinstall the steering column covers and the steering wheel.

   Test operation

   Start the tractor and test Forward, Neutral, and Reverse engagements to ensure the code is cleared and the transmission shifts smoothly.
