Case IH 6014 (564.06) - DEC – DEC: 2WD solenoid - LSD short to HSD
Issue description
The Low Side Driver circuit is short-circuited directly to the High Side Driver (power) circuit. This typically happens when the wiring insulation rubs through and the two wires touch, or when the internal coil of the 2WD/4WD engagement solenoid fails and shorts out, causing excessive current draw that the controller detects as a fault.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Locate the 2WD/4WD solenoid on the transmission valve block. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the solenoid for chafing, melting, or pinched wires, particularly where the harness routes around the transmission housing or frame.
Disconnect and Inspect: Disconnect the electrical connector at the 2WD solenoid. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, water ingress, or bent terminals that could bridge the HSD and LSD pins.
Harness Short Test (Wiring Cause): With the solenoid disconnected and the tractor key OFF, use a digital multimeter to check for continuity between the power wire (HSD) and the return wire (LSD) in the harness. If there is continuity, the wiring harness is shorted and must be repaired.
Solenoid Coil Resistance Test (Component Cause): Measure the resistance across the two pins of the 2WD solenoid itself. If the resistance is at or near 0 ohms, the solenoid coil is internally shorted and requires replacement.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental short circuits during repair.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the transmission valve block and the 2WD solenoid to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector from the 2WD solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid Coil
Remove the retaining nut or clip at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (Note: In most cases, you do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, which prevents fluid loss).
Install the New Solenoid
Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/clip. Torque to OEM specifications if a nut is used.
Reconnect Wiring
Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid, ensuring it clicks and locks into place. Use zip ties to secure the wiring harness away from sharp edges or heat sources.
Test
Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the key ON and use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the instrument cluster diagnostic menu to clear the inactive fault codes. Start the tractor and toggle the 4WD/2WD switch to verify proper operation without the code returning.
