Case IH 6015 – HITCH Controller: Hitch Lower Solenoid is failed shorted to the 12 volts

This indicates that the controller has detected a short to a 12-volt power source on the circuit responsible for driving the hitch lower solenoid. The failure mode is typically either a wiring harness shorted to 12 volts between the controller and the solenoid, or an internal failure (short) within the hitch lower solenoid coil itself.

   Turn off the machine, disconnect the hitch controller connector (C058), and inspect the terminals in cavities 1 and 3 to ensure they are not damaged, bent, or improperly seated.

   Measure the resistance between cavities 1 and 3 on the C058 connector (expected: ~6.4 to 6.8 ohms at 25°C/77°F, ~5.1 ohms at -40°C, or ~9.5 ohms at 100°C).

   If resistance is out of spec (solenoid coil failure cause): disconnect the harness directly at the hitch lower solenoid connector (C152) and measure resistance across the solenoid pins (C152F cavity 1 and pin 2).

   If the solenoid tests within specification (wiring failure cause): check the wires from C058 cavity 1 to C152M cavity 2, and from C058 cavity 3 to C152M cavity 1 for an open circuit or a short to a 12V source.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the Hitch Lower Solenoid on the hitch hydraulic distributor valve block (this may be the rear hitch block or the Electronic Front Hitch (EFH) block depending on the machine's configuration).

   Disconnect the Harness

   Unplug the 2-pole electrical connector (C152 / X-272) from the solenoid.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If step 4 of the diagnostic checks revealed a short to 12V in the harness, trace the wire between the hitch controller and the solenoid. Repair or splice the damaged section of the wire, or replace the harness segment.

   Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)

   If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve cartridge. Slide the old coil off and install the new Hitch Lower Solenoid coil.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid. Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Clear the fault codes. Depending on the tractor model, a Hitch Controller Calibration procedure may need to be performed after servicing the hitch valves.
