Case IH 6023 (564.05) - DEC – DEC: 2WD Solenoid - open circuit

The controller has detected a break in the electrical circuit responsible for operating the 2WD/FWD (Front Wheel Drive) solenoid. An open circuit typically indicates a disconnected plug, a broken or chafed wire in the harness, or a completely failed (burnt out) solenoid coil. The tractor will default to 4WD and you will not be able to turn it off.

   Visually inspect the 2WD/FWD solenoid on the transmission valve block to ensure the electrical connector is securely plugged in and free of dirt, moisture, or corrosion.

   Trace the wiring harness (often designated as wire 3024 Y) back toward the transmission controller, looking for pinched wires, chafing against the chassis, or rodent damage.

   Unplug the connector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the solenoid coil. If it reads infinite resistance (OL), the internal coil is broken.

   With the key ON and the tractor commanded to 2WD mode, check for voltage at the harness-side connector to verify the DEC is sending the signal.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Ensure the tractor is safely parked before beginning repairs.

   Thoroughly clean the area around the transmission control valve block.

   This prevents dirt from contaminating the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the 2WD solenoid.

   Prepare the solenoid for removal.

   Remove the retaining nut or mounting bolts.

   Depending on the specific valve block design, remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the valve stem, or remove the mounting bolts securing the entire solenoid valve cartridge.

   Pull the old solenoid/coil off the valve block.

   Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of transmission fluid may leak.

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve.

   Use clean transmission/hydraulic fluid (e.g., Case IH Akcela Nexplore).

   Insert the new solenoid and tighten the retaining nut/bolts.

   Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect the electrical connector.

   Ensure the connection is secure.

   Start the tractor and test the system.

   Test the 2WD/4WD engagement via the cab switch, and check the valve block for any hydraulic leaks.

    Clear the stored fault codes.

    Use the tractor's AFS Pro display or a diagnostic tool to clear the codes.
