Case IH 6030 (564.03) - DEC – DEC (Drivetrain Electronic Controller): 2WD Solenoid - LSD short to high voltage
Issue description
The Low Side Driver (ground-side control circuit) for the 2WD solenoid is experiencing a short to a high voltage source (typically a short to 12V battery power or VCC). This prevents the controller from regulating the solenoid, which usually results in the tractor defaulting to 4WD mode.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the DEC/TCM to the 2WD solenoid for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points where the ground wire might be shorting to a 12V power wire.
Disconnect the 2WD solenoid electrical connector, turn the ignition key to ON, and probe the Low Side Driver pin (ground return pin) on the harness side. Reading 12V indicates a short to power in the wiring harness.
Measure the resistance across the pins of the 2WD solenoid to check for an internal short bridging the power and ground circuits.
Disconnect the main harness at the DEC/TCM and inspect the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or bent terminals that could cause a bridge between a power pin and the 2WD solenoid return pin.
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake. Relieve all hydraulic pressure by operating the hydraulic levers.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the 2WD/MFD solenoid valve. On most Case IH models, this is mounted on the transmission valve block or directly on the MFD transfer gearbox drop-box.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid with brake cleaner or a proprietary solvent to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system when the valve is removed.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the electrical connector from the 2WD solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid Coil/Valve
Depending on the design, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or use a wrench to unthread the entire solenoid cartridge valve from the manifold.
Installation
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid (e.g., Case IH Akcela Nexplore or Hy-Tran). Thread the new valve into the housing and tighten to the specified torque, or slide the new coil onto the existing stem and secure the retaining nut.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness.
Testing
Start the tractor, clear the DEC fault codes using the diagnostic menu or a service tool, and toggle the 4WD switch to verify proper engagement and disengagement without the code returning.
