Case IH 61 – TMF / ARM / HITCH / EDC: The Hitch Calibration procedure must be performed.

Issue description

The controller has lost the stored calibration values for the 3-point hitch position, or a recent calibration attempt yielded unacceptable results. The system no longer knows the physical upper and lower limits of the hitch's travel, which disables or limits the electronic draft control (EDC) and hitch functionality until the limits are relearned.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Magnum Series (7100, 7200, 8900, MX series, MX210-MX285)
  • Steiger Series
  • Puma Series
  • Maxxum Series
  • CX Series (CX50 to CX100)

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying fault codes (e.g., low battery voltage codes 65/66 or 8-volt reference codes 63/64) and correct them first, as voltage drops can cause memory loss.

  2. Inspect the hitch position command potentiometer (in the cab/armrest) and the rockshaft/draft sensing potentiometer (at the rear) for physical damage, extreme dirt buildup, or loose 3-pin wiring harness connections.

  3. Check the mechanical linkages connecting the rear rockshaft to the sensor to ensure they are not bent, disconnected, or seized.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor

Ensure the tractor is parked on level ground with no implement attached to the 3-point hitch.

  2. Enter programming mode

Hold the PROG (Program) key in while turning the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine).

  3. Navigate menu

Use the INCR (Increase) or DECR (Decrease) keys to navigate the setup main menu.

  4. Locate hitch calibration

Locate the ARM or HITCH section. The HITCH CAL (Hitch Calibration) option will typically be the first option upon entry into this menu.

  5. Select calibration

    Select HITCH CAL.

  6. Cycle hitch levers

Follow the module prompts to cycle the hitch levers: Pull the hitch control levers fully back (raise), then push them fully forward (lower), and finally return them to the neutral (middle) position.

  7. Turn off ignition

Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

  8. Wait for memory write

Wait at least 30 seconds before restarting the tractor. This allows the controller to write the new calibration values to its non-volatile memory.

  9. Test hitch

Start the tractor and test the hitch to ensure the fault code has cleared and full range of motion is restored.
