Case IH 61 – TRANS (Transmission Controller / TCU): System pressure valve solenoid circuit is open circuit or shorted to ground

The system pressure valve solenoid coil is commanded ON, but the voltage on the low side of the coil is higher than expected. This points to a failure in the solenoid coil itself, a wiring harness issue, or a failure within the controller.

   Test the system pressure valve solenoid coil for an internal short or open circuit using a multimeter

   Inspect the wiring harness between the system pressure valve solenoid and the transmission controller for a short to power, short to ground, or broken/open wire

   Test the transmission controller if the solenoid and wiring both test within specification

   Locate the solenoid

   Locate the system pressure valve solenoid on the transmission valve body.

   Inspect the electrical connector

   Disconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or damage.

   Test and replace the solenoid

   Measure the resistance across the solenoid coil. If the coil is shorted or open, remove and replace the system pressure valve solenoid.

   Test the wiring harness

   If the solenoid tests good, use a multimeter to perform a continuity and short-to-ground test on the wiring harness running from the solenoid connector back to the Transmission Controller (TRANS). Repair or replace the harness if a fault is found.

   Replace or repair the transmission controller

   If both the wiring and the solenoid are fully functional, the transmission controller has likely failed and will need to be replaced or sent out for repair.

   Clear codes and test

   Clear the fault codes and test-operate the transmission to ensure the system pressure valve engages without triggering the code.
