Case IH 62 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): System pressure solenoid is shorted to B+

The controller has determined that the voltage of the solenoid circuit is above normal. This typically means either the solenoid coil has failed internally, or the energize circuit wiring is shorted directly to a battery power source.

   Disconnect the system pressure solenoid connector (C039) to test the solenoid coil.

   Measure the resistance of the solenoid coil between cavity A and cavity B. It should be approximately 5.9 to 6.5 ohms at 27°C (80°F). If higher, the coil has an internal short and must be replaced.

   If resistance is within specification, check the wiring harness for damage (short to power) between the solenoid and the transmission controller.

   Perform a voltage check: With the connector disconnected, turn the key switch ON and turn on all electrical items on the front frame that have power wires running parallel to the transmission wiring. Check voltage at cavity B. There should be no voltage. If voltage is present, locate and repair the short in the harness.

   Safety First

   Relieve all hydraulic pressure and disconnect the battery before starting work.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the system pressure solenoid on the transmission powershift valve body.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Unbolt and remove the faulty solenoid valve from the transmission valve body.

   Preparation

   Clean the mounting surface on the valve body thoroughly to prevent contamination of the hydraulic system.

   Installation

   Install the new system pressure solenoid. Ensure you use new seals/O-rings to prevent hydraulic leaks.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the sealed construction is intact to keep out moisture and field debris.

   Testing

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and clear the diagnostic codes. Test the transmission by cycling through gears to ensure smooth shifting and verify that the fault code does not return.
