Case IH 627-04 - VCM – UCM: Low voltage in the power supply of the steering valve

The system has detected that the electrical voltage reaching the electronic steering valve is below the normal operating threshold required for safe steering operation.

   Verify the tractor's overall battery and alternator voltage to ensure the electrical system is operating within the normal range.

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the UCM to the PVED steering valve for physical damage, chafing, or loose connections that could cause a voltage drop.

   Disconnect the steering valve connector and check the power supply pins with a multimeter to confirm if the low voltage is caused by a harness issue or an internal short within the PVED module itself.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the tractor's battery power before servicing the steering valve electrical components to prevent further shorts.

   Repair wiring or replace module

   Repair any damaged wiring in the steering valve harness. If the harness and supply voltage are verified as good but the fault persists, the PVED-CLS module on the steering valve is likely faulty and must be replaced.

   Clean area

   Clean the area around the steering valve to prevent hydraulic contamination.

   Remove faulty module

   Remove the mounting screws securing the faulty PVED-CLS module to the steering valve body.

   Install new module

   Install the new PVED-CLS module and secure it with the provided mounting screws.

   Reconnect harness and battery

   Reconnect the electrical harness and restore battery power.

   Perform calibration

   Perform a steering system calibration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or diagnostic equivalent. You must calibrate the centered steering position, the wheel turning angle sensor, and the steering valve for the new module to function properly.
