Case IH 629-12 - ITBV – ITBV (Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve) module: ITBV Internal Hardware Failure

The Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve's internal controller has suffered a critical internal memory or hardware failure, indicating a bad intelligent device or component, internal hardware failure, or calibration memory software error.

   Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connectors going to the ITBV for shorts to ground, shorts to power (UBATT), or open circuits that could cause the module to lose communication or shut down.

   Connect dealer diagnostic software (Case IH EST) to check for EEPROM or calibration memory errors.

3. 3

   Attempt to re-program or re-flash the ITBV ECU using the diagnostic software.

   Clear the diagnostic code and retest. If the 629-12 code immediately returns or persists, the internal hardware is permanently damaged.

   Power down and bleed pressure

   Power down the tractor and bleed all air/hydraulic pressure from the trailer braking system to ensure safe removal.

   Disconnect electrical harness

   Disconnect the main electrical wiring harness connector from the ITBV module.

   Disconnect lines

   Disconnect the pneumatic/hydraulic lines (such as the ITBV to Solenoid Valve tube) from the valve body.

   Remove ITBV assembly

   Unbolt the defective ITBV assembly from its mounting bracket and remove it.

   Install new ITBV

   Install the new Intelligent Trailer Brake Valve and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect lines and harness

   Reconnect all pneumatic/hydraulic lines and the electrical harness.

   Program and calibrate

   Power on the machine and use the diagnostic tool to program/calibrate the new ITBV module to the tractor's specifications.

   Test trailer brakes

   Make several trailer brake applications to check for prompt application and release, and verify there are no air/fluid leaks.

   Clear codes and test drive

   Clear any remaining fault codes and test drive to confirm the repair.
