Case IH 629-12 - VCM – VCM: Vehicle controller internal fault

Critical internal hardware or memory failure within the control module (EEPROM error, flash memory checksum error, or internal UCE failure). The operating system has detected a fatal internal error that forces a part of the control system to reboot or lock up.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and save any snapshot/freeze-frame information associated with the DTC.

   Monitor the unswitched battery voltage to the VCM. Ensure the power supply is stable (above 11.7V for 12V systems) and that there are no short circuits or over-voltage conditions causing the module to reboot.

   Inspect the VCM wiring harness and pins for corrosion, which can cause unstable power supply leading to memory faults.

   Attempt Reprogramming

   Using the CNH EST, attempt to reflash/reprogram the VCM with the latest software calibration.

   Verify

   Cycle the key and operate the machine to see if the error remains. If the code clears, the flash memory was simply corrupted and is now resolved.

   Replace

   If the 629-12 error remains active after reprogramming, or if the module is locked and refuses the flash, the internal memory is permanently defective. You must replace the VCM hardware.

   Calibrate

   Install the new VCM and program it to the specific machine's configuration using the dealer service tool.
