629-14 - ITBV

Case IH 629-14 - ITBV – Trailer Brake Control (iTBV) module: Trailer Brake Controller Internal Fault

Issue description

The module has detected an unrecoverable internal hardware failure, a memory checksum error, or a microprocessor fault within the trailer brake controller itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • AFS Connect Magnum 180
  • AFS Connect Magnum 200
  • AFS Connect Magnum 220
  • AFS Connect Magnum 240
  • AFS Connect Magnum 250
  • AFS Connect Magnum 280
  • AFS Connect Magnum 310
  • AFS Connect Magnum 340
  • AFS Connect Magnum 380
  • Farmall 40
  • Farmall 45
  • Farmall 50
  • Farmall 115U EP

Check the cause

  1. Check the system for active overvoltage (Code 12883) or undervoltage (Code 12884) faults. A failing alternator or weak battery can cause the ITBV to log an internal fault.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the ITBV for a 'Short to Power' or 'Short to Ground'. Ensure the main ground wire for the controller is clean and tight.

  3. Verify there are no active CAN bus communication faults between the ITBV and the Vehicle Controller (Codes 12892, 12898, or 12899).

  4. Clear the fault codes using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and cycle the key. If the 629-14 / 12885 code immediately returns as 'Active,' the controller is internally bricked and must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and safely relieve all hydraulic and pneumatic pressure from the trailer brake lines.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical arcing or further module damage.

  3. Remove the Faulty ITBV

Locate the ITBV assembly. Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the module. Mark and disconnect the hydraulic/pneumatic lines. Unbolt the valve assembly from its mounting bracket.

  4. Install the New ITBV

Mount the replacement ITBV valve (OEM Part # 47808922). Reconnect the fluid/air lines and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Restore Power & Bleed

Reconnect the battery. Bleed the brake lines of any air introduced during the swap.

  6. Software Calibration

Connect the Case IH EST laptop. The new module will likely throw a 'Trailer Brake Controller - Incorrect Trailer Brake Configuration' code (12882) until it is flashed. Flash the module with the correct software (e.g., software part number 51595354 for Magnum Tier 4B models) and run the automated trailer brake calibration routine.
