Case IH 63 – Transmission Control Module (TCM): SYNCRO_HL_ENG_ERR 40 SL/HI Dis

The transmission controller has detected that the high/low synchronizer has failed to engage properly or is out of its expected position. As a protective measure, the system triggers the "40 SL/HI Dis" effect, which disables the High/Low shifting functionality (Fixed Limit/Disabled) to prevent further mechanical damage.

   Inspect external linkages and relay rods for incorrect adjustment, which can cause spontaneous disengagement or difficulty engaging the gearbox

   Check rod pivots for stiffness or partial seizure that could cause binding

   Test the High/Low synchronizer switches and solenoids (SOL_HL) electrically to ensure they are not shorting to 12V or grounding out

   Attempt a transmission calibration procedure; failure to calibrate confirms an internal mechanical failure or a failed synchronizer switch

   Adjust and Lubricate

   Adjust the external levers and relay rods correctly. Lubricate all rod pivots to eliminate stiffness.

   Prepare for Split

   If the issue is internal (excessive noise or persistent engagement failure), the transmission/gearbox must be removed.

   Secure the Machine

   Lock the front wheels using chocks.

   Disconnect Linkages

   Remove the top link of the third point and disconnect the gearbox clutch control cables and safety pin control cables.

   Remove the Transmission

   Split the tractor and remove the transmission-gearbox assembly.

   Disassemble the Gearbox

   Access the main shaft and remove the selector sleeve for high or medium-low speeds.

   Inspect and Replace

   Inspect the High/Low synchronizer assembly, the bevel pinion shaft, and the gearbox driving gear clearance adjusting thickness. Replace the worn synchronizer assembly.

   Reassembly

   During reassembly, apply the specified OEM sealing compound to the mating surfaces (marked with an "X" in the manual's diagrams).
