Case IH 69 – Armrest Controller (ARM): Hitch Position Command potentiometer has failed
Issue description
The controller is receiving an invalid, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the potentiometer on the armrest console, which is responsible for communicating the operator's desired rear hitch height/position to the system.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- STX Steiger series
- MX Magnum and Magnum series
- TG Series
- Puma series
Check the cause
Inspect connector ends for damaged, bent, loose, or dislocated pins.
Check the 5V supply circuit for proper voltage.
Check the wiring between Pin 8 of connector C051 and Pin 16 of connector C027 for a short to power.
Check the wiring between Pin 6 of connector C051 and Pin 13 of connector C027 for a short to power.
Repair steps
Visual Inspection
Examine the armrest console wiring harness and the physical condition of the hitch position command dial/potentiometer.
Attempt Calibration
Enter the Armrest Calibration Hitch Menu via the instrument cluster (ICU2) and perform the hitch calibration procedure.
Test the Potentiometer
If the calibration fails (which may trigger a secondary code like ARM 9021: "Hitch position command potentiometer calibration results not acceptable") or if code 69 returns, test the position command potentiometer function directly at the armrest controller using a multimeter.
Replace the Component
If the potentiometer fails the electrical sweep test (voltage/resistance is erratic or dead), replace the potentiometer. Note: On some newer models, the potentiometer is soldered to the printed circuit board, requiring the replacement of the armrest control board.
Recalibrate
After installing the new part, turn the key switch to the ON position, enter the calibration menu within the first 10 seconds, and recalibrate the hitch.
