Case IH 69 – Transmission Controller (TCU): Reverse switch input from the FNRP Pod is shorted to +12 Volts or the FNRP pod 5 Volt Reference
Issue description
The transmission controller is detecting an abnormally high voltage on the reverse switch circuit coming from the FNRP (Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park) pod. This is typically caused by a short to a 12-volt power source or a short directly to the pod's 5-volt reference circuit.

Check the cause
View the Shuttle Position Display: Turn the ignition key to 'ON' (engine off) and watch the shuttle position display on the instrumentation cluster while physically shifting the FNRP lever.
Isolate the 5V Supply Circuit: The service manual notes that when fault code 69 is triggered, there is a high probability that the failure is located in the 5V supply circuit rather than the switch itself.
Pin-to-Pin Wiring Check: Check the wiring harness between Pin 8 of connector C051 and Pin 16 of connector C027 for a short to power.
Visual Connector Inspection: Carefully inspect the connectors for bent pins, loose pins, pushed-back terminals, or wire chafing/damage.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during testing and repair.
Access the Harness
Remove the necessary trim panels to access the FNRP pod wiring harness (Connector C051) and the Transmission Controller harness (Connector C027).
Test for Shorts
Using a multimeter, test the continuity of the reverse switch circuit and the 5V reference circuit. Check for continuity to any 12V power wires in the bundle.
Repair Wiring
If a short is found in the harness (e.g., rubbed through wire insulation), repair the wire using OEM-approved splicing methods and heat shrink, or replace the affected harness section.
Inspect/Replace the Switch
If the wiring harness tests perfectly fine, the short is likely internal to the FNRP pod switch assembly. Disassemble the upper/lower pod housings and replace the FNRP switch or the entire shuttle lever assembly.
Reassemble and Verify
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to 'ON', and shift through Forward, Neutral, Reverse, and Park. Verify that the instrumentation cluster displays the correct gear and that Fault Code 69 has cleared.
