Case IH 7014 – ARM: Difflock Switch Error

Issue description

An electrical fault, such as an open circuit, short to ground, or a stuck switch, is preventing the controller from reading the correct position of the differential lock switch. This disrupts the communication of the switch's status to the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) via the CAN-BUS network.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Puma
  • Mid Range Magnum
  • Magnum 215
  • Magnum 235
  • Magnum 245
  • Magnum 275
  • Magnum 305

  • Puma 170
  • Puma 185
  • Puma 200
  • Puma 215
  • Puma 230
  • Puma CVT
  • Steiger
  • Farmall

Check the cause

  1. Check for related codes logged by the Armrest Controller (e.g., ARM 1079) or TCU (e.g., 6004, 6005, 6006) indicating CAN-BUS communication problems.

  2. Inspect the connector ends at the armrest controller and the switch for damaged, bent, corroded, or dislocated pins.

  3. Test the wiring harness between the difflock switch and the armrest controller for continuity, open circuits, or shorts to ground.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the differential lock switch itself to determine if it is stuck open or closed.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access switch

Carefully disassemble the armrest console or the specific side control panel to access the rear of the differential lock switch.

  3. Remove faulty switch

Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the faulty switch and unclip or unscrew the switch from its mounting bracket or panel.

  4. Install new switch

Install the new differential lock switch into the panel until it is securely fastened, then reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Reassemble components

Reassemble the armrest console or control panel.

  6. Test system

Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, clear the stored fault codes, and test the differential lock engagement to ensure the error does not return.
