Case IH 7019 (746.17) - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or Chassis Controller (CCH): DiffLock Solenoid - LSD short to GND
Issue description
The controller has detected an incorrect voltage at the output pin for the Differential Lock (DiffLock) solenoid. Specifically, the Low Side Driver (LSD) is showing a short to ground (GND), meaning the circuit is permanently grounded, either due to a wiring harness defect or an internal short within the solenoid itself. This condition can cause the differential lock to be stuck on or fail to engage properly.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness cable running from the TCU to the difflock solenoid for areas where insulation may have rubbed through and contacted the chassis.
Check the connectors from the difflock solenoid to the TCU for bent pins, moisture, or corrosion that could bridge the connection to ground.
Test the resistance of the difflock solenoid to determine if it has an internal defect.
Disconnect the controller connector (e.g., C057) and test for continuity between the difflock solenoid pin and the chassis ground to confirm if the short is in the harness.
Repair steps
Locate the Solenoid
The difflock solenoid is typically located at the rear of the tractor, under the platform on the right side of the control valve assembly (often stacked near the modulation solenoid).
Disconnect and Inspect
Disconnect the wiring harness plug from the difflock solenoid. Inspect the mating pins on both the harness side and the solenoid side. Clean the connections thoroughly.
Test the Solenoid
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the solenoid pins. If the resistance is out of specification or shows a dead short to the solenoid housing, the solenoid has failed internally and must be replaced.
Test the Harness
If the solenoid tests good, probe the harness connector back to the TCU. If the ground wire shows continuity to the chassis when disconnected from the TCU, locate the chafe mark in the wiring harness and repair the damaged wire.
Reassembly
Plug the connectors back in securely.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic tool or CAN-bus DTC eraser to clear the fault codes from the TCU/CCH and verify that the differential lock engages and disengages normally.
