Case IH 7021 (746.06) - DEC – PTO Controller: DiffLock Solenoid - LSD short to HSD
Issue description
Fault in Circuit of Differential Lock Valve (Y44) or Differential Lock Solenoid High Current.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- MX285
- 5140
- Puma 165-225 CVX
- Magnum 290
- STX 375 Quadtrac
Check the cause
Test the difflock solenoid resistance and the wiring from the controller to the solenoid.
Inspect connections by removing the controller cover from the rear of the tractor and disconnecting the black connector (C057) from the PTO controller.
Inspect and clean pin 9 in the connector and its mating pin.
Test continuity between pin 9 and the chassis ground; resistance should be approximately 8.5 - 9.7 ohms.
Perform a component isolation (swap) test by temporarily switching the difflock solenoid with the modulation solenoid to see if the fault follows the component (Note: if a faulty solenoid is moved to the modulation valve, the tractor will not move).
Repair steps
Access control valve
Access the rear control valve block under the platform.
Clean connections
Clean all harness connections at the controller (e.g., C057) and the solenoid itself to rule out high-resistance shorts.
Replace solenoid
Replace the DiffLock solenoid if it fails the 8.5 - 9.7 ohm resistance test or the physical swap test.
