Case IH 7024 - UCM – UCM: Steering angle sensor not calibrated

The control module does not have valid calibration data for the front axle steering angle sensor. This sensor monitors the angular position of the front steering axle and transmits real-time position data to the auto-guidance and auto-steer control systems. Without calibration, the system cannot determine whether the front wheels are straight or turning, which will disable auto-guidance features.

   Check recent maintenance history: verify if the tractor recently had a dead battery, a battery disconnect, or a UCM replacement, which would require a simple recalibration.

   Visually inspect the steering angle sensor (located on the front steering axle) for physical damage, loose mounting hardware, or heavy debris buildup.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the sensor for corrosion, pinched wires, or disconnected plugs.

   Check for accompanying fault codes 7031 (out of maximum range) or 7032 (signal too low). If present, the sensor has likely failed electrically and calibration will not fix it.

   Attempt Calibration

   Enter the tractor's calibration menu via the instrument cluster or the Pro 700/1200 display.

   Navigate to Calibration Section

   Navigate to the Steering / Autoguidance calibration section.

   Initiate Calibration Procedure

   Initiate the Steering Angle Sensor calibration procedure. You will typically be prompted to drive the tractor slowly forward while turning the steering wheel to the full left lock (save the value), then to the full right lock (save the value), and finally driving perfectly straight to establish the center position.

   Save Calibration

   Save the calibration and cycle the key.

   Replace the Sensor (If Calibration Fails)

   If the calibration procedure fails, the sensor values jump erratically, or the fault code immediately returns, the sensor itself is defective.

   Remove Defective Sensor

   Remove the defective sensor from the front axle linkage.

   Install New Sensor

   Install the new OEM steering angle sensor.

   Recalibrate

   A new sensor will immediately throw code 7024 until the calibration procedure (Steps 1-4) is successfully completed.
