703-02 - ACM

Case IH 703-02 - ACM – ACM: Configurable switch 3 circuit fault

Issue description

An electrical malfunction in the circuit of Configurable Switch 3, indicating the control module has detected an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power in the switch's wiring or internal contacts.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 260
  • Magnum 290
  • Steiger 500
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 175 CVX
  • Puma 180
  • CH570
  • CH670

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical condition of Configurable Switch 3 on the Multi-Function Handle to see if it is stuck, broken, or lacks tactile feedback.

  2. Remove the armrest trim and inspect the wiring harness connecting the Multi-Function Handle to the ACM for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or loose connector plugs.

  3. Disconnect the handle's harness and use a digital multimeter to test the switch for continuity when pressed and released.

  4. Check the connectors at the Armrest Control Module for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent pins.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

  2. Access the Armrest Internals

Remove the necessary trim panels and screws on the armrest console to expose the Multi-Function Handle wiring and the ACM.

  3. Isolate the Fault

Disconnect the harness from the Multi-Function Handle. Test the specific pins corresponding to Configurable Switch 3. If the switch fails the continuity test, replace the handle or switch assembly. If the switch tests good, check the harness between the handle and the ACM for continuity and repair or replace any broken wires.

  4. ACM Replacement

If the switch and wiring are perfectly intact, disconnect the multi-pin connectors from the ACM, unbolt the module, and install the replacement. Note: A new ACM will likely require calibration and reprogramming by a dealer using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect all harnesses, reinstall the armrest trim panels, and reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the logged fault codes and test the functionality of Configurable Switch 3 to verify the repair.
