Case IH 7032 – Steering Controller / Autoguidance Controller: Steering angle sensor - signal too low

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the steering angle position sensor that falls below the acceptable minimum threshold. This condition typically points to a failed sensor, an open circuit, a short to ground in the wiring harness, or a sensor that has physically come loose and is reading outside of its calibrated physical range.

   Clear the fault code via the in-cab display (e.g., Pro 700) to see if the error is intermittent.

   Physically inspect the steering angle sensor (usually mounted on the front steering axle kingpin or steering cylinder) to ensure it is securely mounted and has not suffered physical damage.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the sensor for corrosion, moisture, broken wires, or a short to ground.

   Verify the supply voltage to the sensor.

   Use the tractor's diagnostic display or service tool to monitor the live voltage/position feedback of the steering angle sensor while turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock to see if the signal drops out or remains flat.

   Power down and disconnect battery

   Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the steering angle sensor on the front axle assembly.

   Disconnect harness

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor.

   Remove faulty sensor

   Unbolt and remove the faulty steering angle sensor from its mounting bracket.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new OEM steering angle sensor and tighten the mounting hardware to spec.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector clicks into place and is free of debris.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor.

   Perform calibration

   Perform a Steering Angle Sensor Calibration. This is a mandatory step after replacing the sensor so the controller can learn the new center, left-lock, and right-lock voltage values. This is typically done by entering the calibration mode on the tractor's display, driving forward slowly, and turning the wheels fully to the left and right as prompted by the system.
