Case IH 708-02 - ACM – ACM: Auxiliary I/O #08 (Configurable Switch 8) - Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect

The control module is receiving an erratic, intermittent, or incorrect electrical signal from Configurable Switch 8, indicating a circuit fault or a failing switch contact.

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to read fault code memory, verify if 708-02 is active, and monitor live data values to see if Switch 8 registers input when pressed.

   Visually inspect the Multi-Function Handle (MFH) and Configurable Switch 8 for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing normal operation.

   Disconnect the harness at the MFH and the 17-pin connector at the Armrest Control Module (ACM). Inspect for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Measure the resistance and continuity of the wiring between the switch and the ACM to rule out an open circuit or a short to ground/power in the armrest harness.

   Verify that the ACM is receiving the correct 12-volt input power and that the 5-volt reference signals to the armrest components are within permissible limits.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrostatic discharge damage to the modules.

   Isolate the Fault

   If the wiring harness tests good (no opens or shorts) but the EST shows erratic data when the switch is actuated, the fault lies within the switch itself.

   Replace the Component

   On most Case IH applications, individual switches on the joystick are not serviced separately. You will need to replace the entire Multi-Function Handle (MFH) assembly.

   ACM Replacement (If Necessary)

   If the switch and wiring both test perfectly, but the ACM fails to process the input, the Armrest Control Module itself is faulty and must be replaced.

   Reassembly and Calibration

   Install the new component and reconnect all harnesses. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear and Calibrate

   Turn the ignition on. Use the EST to clear the 708-02 fault code. You may need to perform a power-up calibration for the armrest levers and switches to ensure the new module or handle is recognized by the network.
