Case IH 7102 – Autoguidance / Navigation Controller (NAV2XCM): Autoguidance isolation solenoid – solenoid return short to ground

Issue description

The electrical return circuit (ground side) for the autoguidance isolation solenoid has shorted directly to the chassis ground or another ground source. The isolation solenoid is responsible for enabling or disabling hydraulic flow to the automated steering valve when the AFS AccuGuide system is engaged.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Puma 150
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 185
  • Puma 200
  • Puma 210
  • Puma 220
  • Puma 240
  • Magnum 240
  • Magnum 260
  • Optum 270 CVT
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Trace the wiring harness from the NAV2XCM controller to the autoguidance steering valve block, looking for chafed, pinched, or melted wires touching the tractor's metal chassis.

  2. Disconnect the harness at the isolation solenoid and test the return wire for continuity to ground using a multimeter. If continuity exists while disconnected from the controller, the harness is shorted.

  3. Test the isolation solenoid itself for an internal failure that can cause the coil's windings to short directly to the solenoid's metal casing.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Valve

Locate the autoguidance steering valve assembly (CCLS valve), typically mounted under the cab or near the steering orbital.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the autoguidance isolation solenoid.

  4. Harness Repair (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic tests revealed a wiring short, splice and heat-shrink the damaged section of the return wire, or replace the affected harness section.

  5. Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)

If the solenoid is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem and slide the faulty solenoid coil off. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and torque the retaining nut to spec.

  6. Reassembly & Clearing Codes

Reconnect the electrical harness and battery. Turn the key switch ON. Enter the tractor's diagnostic 'H Menu' (using the dot matrix display and menu keys) to clear the stored 7102 fault code.

  7. Calibration

You may need to perform a steering angle sensor calibration after servicing the autoguidance hydraulic system to ensure vehicle path precision.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Autoguidance Valve Assembly (CCLS)

    84392699

Remanufactured Part # 84392699R - Fitment: Magnum 260 and similar models.

  • Autoguidance Isolation Solenoid / Steering Valve Solenoid Coil

If the solenoid is not sold separately for your specific valve block, a hydraulic valve specialist can often match the Danfoss or Bosch Rexroth coil using the numbers stamped directly on the faulty coil.
