Case IH 734-03 - DEC – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) or Electronic Control Module (ECM): Transmission C1 clutch solenoid electrical circuit fault voltage above normal
Issue description
The control module has determined that the voltage on the C1 clutch solenoid circuit is higher than expected. This condition is typically caused by the solenoid's energize circuit being shorted to a high power source (such as the +battery circuit), a short within the wiring harness, or an internal failure (short) within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position
Locate the transmission powershift valve body and disconnect the machine harness connectors from the C1 clutch solenoid and the Transmission ECU. Inspect the connectors for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins
At the machine harness connector for the ECU, measure the resistance from the C1 solenoid contact pin to all other contacts used in the ECU harness connector (expected result is greater than 5000 ohms). If less than 5000 ohms, there is a short to power in the machine harness
Measure the resistance across the pins of the C1 clutch solenoid itself. If the resistance is near zero ohms, the solenoid has failed internally
Repair steps
Isolate the Battery
Ensure the tractor is turned off and the battery disconnect switch is OFF.
Repair the Harness (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic checks revealed a harness short (resistance < 5000 ohms), trace the wiring harness from the transmission controller toward the solenoids under the cab. Repair any melted, chafed, or pinched wires.
Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)
If the harness tests OK, the C1 clutch solenoid is the culprit. Clean the area around the powershift valve body to prevent debris from entering the transmission hydraulic circuit. Disconnect the electrical connector from the C1 solenoid. Remove the retaining hardware securing the C1 solenoid to the powershift valve block. Pull the old solenoid out. Lubricate the O-rings/seals on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid and install it into the valve body. Torque the retaining hardware to OEM specifications.
Replace Connectors
If the female electrical connector at the solenoid is brittle or heat-damaged, splice in a new replacement connector and terminal pins.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery, turn the key ON, and use the instrument cluster or electronic service tool to clear the 734-03 diagnostic trouble code. Start the tractor and test the transmission through its gears to ensure the code does not return and the C1 clutch engages properly.
