Case IH 734-17 - DEC – Transmission Controller (TCU) or UCM (User Control Module): Transmission C1 clutch solenoid minimum calibration current limit exceeded
Issue description
During the transmission's automated clutch calibration procedure, the Transmission Control Unit detected that the electrical current required to actuate the C1 Clutch Solenoid fell outside of the acceptable programmed parameters (specifically, exceeding the minimum current limit threshold). This typically means the controller is detecting excessive electrical resistance, a partial short, or a mechanical binding in the proportional valve.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes such as E44 (C1 clutch solenoid short circuit), E45 (C1 clutch solenoid open circuit), or NH 2095 (C1 clutch not calibrated)
Inspect the wiring harness and Connector No. 31 (or X-049) at the C1 clutch solenoid for corrosion, pushed pins, or damaged seals
Measure the resistance of the C1 solenoid coil with a multimeter and compare it against the C3 or C5 clutch solenoids to identify if the coil is out of specification
Ensure the transmission fluid (Case IH Akcela Nexplore) is at the correct operating temperature, as cold oil can cause calibration to fail or throw current limit errors
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the tractor on a firm, level surface, engage the park brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate the Valve Block
Access the transmission powershift valve range manifold. The C1 clutch solenoid is typically grouped alongside the C3, C5, and Reverse solenoids.
Disconnect Electrical Harness
Carefully unplug Connector No. 31 (or X-049) from the C1 solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid
Using a suitable punch or tool, remove the retaining pin/plug holding the solenoid in the manifold block. Extract the C1 clutch solenoid and its spring/proportional valve assembly.
Install the New Solenoid
Lubricate the new solenoid O-rings/seals with clean transmission fluid (CASE IH AKCELA NEXPLORE FLUID). Insert the new C1 solenoid into the manifold and secure it with the retaining pin.
Reassemble and Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in. Replace the terminal connector or seal if the old ones were compromised.
Recalibrate the Transmission
You must perform a transmission calibration after replacing a clutch solenoid. Initiate the calibration mode via the tractor's display or a dealer laptop so the TCU can learn the new fill time and current limits for the C1 clutch.
