735-00 - DEC

Case IH 735-00 - DEC – Transmission Controller / TCU: Transmission C2 clutch solenoid maximum calibration current limit exceeded

Issue description

The system attempts to calibrate the C2 clutch but the electrical current required by the C2 clutch solenoid exceeds the maximum allowable limit. This prevents the clutch from calibrating successfully.

Check the cause

  1. Air Pressure Test: Apply air pressure to the C2 clutch pressure pipe port to check for internal leaks. Listen for air escaping in the forward gearbox section (the C1/C2 clutch section). You should be able to clearly hear the clutch piston movement; if air escapes without building pressure, there is a mechanical leak preventing calibration.

  2. Electrical Circuit Check: Verify the transmission temperature sensor, wheel speed sensor circuits, and the 5-volt reference circuits, as failures or shorts in these systems can disrupt the transmission controller's ability to calibrate the clutches.

  3. Switch Verification: Ensure the clutch disconnect switch is not misadjusted (e.g., adjusted too high) or short-circuited (always closed).

Repair steps

  1. Locate manifold

Locate the transmission control valve manifold which houses the electro-hydraulic solenoids.

  2. Remove retaining pins

Using a suitable punch, remove the retaining pins from the manifold.

  3. Remove valve components

Remove the plug, spring, and the lubrication proportional valve.

  4. Inspect proportioning valve

Inspect the C1/C2 lubrication proportioning valve (which is moved by C2 clutch pressure) for binding, wear, or debris.

  5. Replace solenoid or coil

Replace the faulty C2 clutch solenoid or coil as necessary.

  6. Lubricate components

Lubricate all components with CASE IH AKCELA NEXPLORE™ FLUID prior to reassembly.

  7. Reinstall components

Reinstall the manifold components and retaining pins.

  8. Perform calibration

Perform a transmission clutch calibration. The tractor must be driven, and the clutch pedal depressed to enable the transmission calibration sequence via the electronic diagnostic tool or cab display.
