Case IH 735-06 - DEC – DEC: Transmission Range Clutch C2 Solenoid Current above normal or closed circuit (shorted to ground)
Issue description
The control module has detected that the electrical current in the circuit for the Transmission C2 clutch solenoid is higher than the expected limit, or the circuit is shorted to ground. This is typically caused by a failed solenoid coil (internal short) or a wiring harness that has rubbed through and shorted to the chassis or another power source.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS series
- Maxxum series
- T8/T7 series equivalents
Check the cause
Power Down: Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Isolate the Circuit: Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the C2 clutch solenoid and the Transmission ECU (DEC).
Check for Shorts: At the machine harness connector for the ECU, measure the resistance from the solenoid contact pin to all other contacts and to ground to check for a short circuit in the wiring harness.
Test the Solenoid: Measure the resistance across the pins of the C2 clutch solenoid itself. If the resistance is out of specification (nearly zero ohms), the solenoid has failed internally.
Repair steps
Ensure the machine is parked safely, the engine is off, and the battery disconnect switch is in the OFF position.
Locate the transmission control valve block and identify the C2 clutch solenoid.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the C2 clutch solenoid.
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the transmission wire harness.
If the diagnostic checks revealed a failed solenoid, remove the retaining hardware and extract the C2 clutch solenoid from the transmission valve body.
Install the new C2 clutch solenoid, ensuring any O-rings are properly seated and lubricated with clean transmission fluid.
Reconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid.
Restore battery power, turn the key ON, and use the diagnostic display or service tool to clear the active SPN 735 FMI 06 fault code.
Test drive the tractor to ensure the C2 clutch engages properly and the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(2)Transmission C2 Clutch Solenoid
The exact OEM part number for the solenoid valve assembly depends heavily on the specific tractor model and transmission build (e.g., 16x16 vs. ActiveDrive 8) and must be verified by serial number.
Electrical Connector (Female)
