Case IH 741-06 - DEC – Transmission Control Module (TCM), CCM (Combine Control Module), or REH module: Transmission Forward Clutch Solenoid - Current above normal or grounded circuit
Issue description
The controller has detected that the electrical circuit for the transmission's forward clutch solenoid is drawing excessive amperage or has shorted directly to ground. This condition typically prevents the forward clutch from engaging properly, which can result in the machine failing to move forward, slipping, or limiting engine/transmission operation to prevent damage.

Check the cause
Inspect the transmission wiring harness for chafing, pinched wires, or bare spots that could cause a short to ground (pay special attention to feed wire 4014 or 4015).
Inspect the female electrical connector at the solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or melted pins.
Disconnect the forward clutch solenoid and measure its internal resistance with a multimeter to check if the coil has failed internally and is drawing too many amps.
With the solenoid disconnected, test the feed wire from the ECU to the solenoid connector to ensure the short is not in the harness itself.
Repair steps
Isolate the Circuit
Turn off the machine's battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Transmission Valve Block
Locate the transmission control valve assembly where the directional solenoids are mounted.
Disconnect the Harness
Unplug the electrical connector from the forward clutch solenoid.
Verify the Fault
If your multimeter testing (from the diagnostic steps) confirmed the solenoid is internally shorted (current above normal), proceed to replace the solenoid. If the harness is shorted, repair the damaged section of the wire.
Remove the Solenoid
Unbolt and remove the faulty forward clutch solenoid from the transmission valve body. Be prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid.
Install the New Solenoid
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean hydraulic oil. Install it into the valve block and torque to OEM specifications.
Reconnect and Clear Codes
Plug the electrical connector back in, restore battery power, and use a diagnostic tool or the machine's H-Menu to clear the 741-06 fault code. Run a transmission calibration if required by your specific model.
